Time synchronization is an essential element of networking that is often overlooked. In Today’s network-connected world, precise clock synchronization over vast global distances has become an imperative requirement by telecommunication services, industrial automation, networked measurement and control systems and applications. In order to further increase bandwidth requirements, a shift in the adoption of backhaul technologies in the wireless industry have also driven the need for a packet-based infrastructure.
The IEEE-1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) is very important for many industrial sectors and applications that require time synchronization accuracy between computers down to nanosecond levels. PTP uses a lightweight packet structure requiring minimal bandwidth and little processing overhead, which in turn lower costs, and easy implementation in existing Ethernet networks. Additionally, timing precision improves network monitoring accuracy and troubleshooting ability.
Lanner’s hyper-converged HTCA platform provides numerous switch blades to support IEEE 1588v2, and full compliance with ITU T G.8265.1 and G.8275.1 telecom profiles, most suitable for open programmable 5G mobile infrastructure including CDNs, Anti-DDoS NGFW, Open RAN, BRAS and MEC. HTCA-6600 is designed with six swappable Ethernet NIC/switch blade slots and thirty-two 10GbE ports, providing flexibility and scalability with powerful performance. Crucially, HTCA-6600 is a high-availability system, providing switch blade and CPU blade redundancy, and when one of the blades encounters an issue, the other will take over the work load for the system to operate continuously without fail.
